Checkout is at ten. The flight is at nine.

It is the most common question a Malta host gets on a changeover morning, and the one most listings have no answer to. The gap is eleven hours, the guest has two suitcases, and the next arrival is at three.

This page is what a host can actually offer, and what the airport really does, which is narrower than most people assume.

Decide it before the morning.

Holding bags is a good, cheap thing to offer, and the whole cost of it is deciding in advance rather than on the doorstep. Three questions settle it.

Where do they go?
A locked cupboard, a spare room, or the entrance hall of the block if the administrator is content with it. Common parts belong to the condominium, so that is a conversation to have once rather than an assumption to make weekly.
Who hands them back?
The responsible person on the sign is reachable 24 hours because the licence requires it, so that is who a guest will call whether or not you meant them to. If your rota changes at two, the person on at two needs to know there are bags and where.
What does the listing say?
Say yes or say no, and say it before booking. A guest who reads "no storage after checkout" plans around it. A guest who finds out at ten asks the neighbours, and the neighbours are the people whose complaints reach the MTA.

What the regulation does and does not fix

L.N. 92 of 2026 fixes who answers and how they are reachable. It does not deal with luggage after checkout at all, so the arrangement is yours to make. Write it down anyway: an unwritten favour is the thing that goes wrong on the one day the responsible person is somebody else.

The airport holds bags, for people who are flying.

Malta International Airport runs a 24-hour luggage deposit in a storage room inside the Check-in Hall, near the Customer Services Information Centre. It is charged per piece and not by weight.

Travelling passengers only

The service is available only to travelling customers at the airport, and an identity card or passport is shown before anything is deposited. It is not a left-luggage office for a day in Valletta.

What it will not take

Bags must be locked and are screened. No dangerous goods, no food or drink, no pets. Valuables should not be inside. Fragile items are declared first, and bulky ones are taken only if there is room.

Paying and collecting

In euro on collection, cash or card. Leave time before check-in. Anything unclaimed after 90 days becomes the airport's property.

There is also a Left Item Service at a flat €5 for something that fits in an A4 envelope. The airport's own page gives the collection window as 30 days in one sentence and 90 in the next, so check it before relying on either.

Storage in town.

We do not keep a list of storage points. They are private businesses that open, move and close, and a directory nobody maintains sends a guest across the island for nothing. These lists are other people's and are kept by the people who own them. None of them pays us anything.

VisitMalta
The Malta Tourism Authority's own consumer site keeps a page of luggage storage facilities.
Malta Lockers
A Maltese operator running its own locker sites.
Stow Your Bags
A booking network that places bags with partner shops, including in Valletta.

Asked and answered.

Can a Malta short-let host store guests' bags after checkout?
Nothing in L.N. 92 of 2026 deals with what happens to luggage after a guest checks out, so it is the host's own arrangement rather than a licensing question. What the regulation does fix is who answers: the responsible person named on the sign has to be reachable 24 hours, and that is the person a guest will call about a bag. Decide in advance whether you hold bags, where, and who hands them back, and put the answer in the listing rather than leaving it to a changeover morning.
Is there luggage storage at Malta International Airport?
Yes. The airport runs a 24-hour luggage deposit in a storage room inside the Check-in Hall, near the Customer Services Information Centre. Rates are charged per piece rather than by weight: €5 for up to 12 hours and €10 for up to 24 hours for hand or hold luggage up to 30kg, and €10 then €15 for bulky items. It is only available to travelling customers at the airport and an ID card or passport must be shown, so it does not help someone who wants to leave bags in town and come back later.
What will the airport not accept in left luggage?
Luggage must be securely locked and is screened. Dangerous items and perishable goods such as food and drink are refused, as are pets. Valuables including cameras, laptops, jewellery and phones should not be left inside. Fragile items must be declared before deposit, and bulky items such as instruments, surfboards or bicycles are taken only if there is space. Payment is in euro on collection, by cash or card. Anything unclaimed after 90 days becomes the airport's property.
Where else can I leave luggage in Malta?
VisitMalta, which is the Malta Tourism Authority's consumer site, keeps a page of luggage storage facilities, and there are commercial locker sites and booking networks that place bags with partner shops in Valletta and the main tourist areas. We link those lists rather than keeping our own, because storage points are private businesses that open and close and a stale address sends someone across the island for nothing.
